CruSense

Privacy Policy

Last updated 29 August 2026

CruSense is a wine cellar and food-pairing app operated by Causal Oy, a company registered in Finland and the data controller for the information described here. This policy explains what CruSense stores, why, and how to get rid of it. It is deliberately short, because the app collects little.

The short version. Your email and your cellar, stored so the app works and syncs to your devices. No advertising, no third-party analytics, no tracking, no selling data to anyone. Delete your account and it all goes.

What is collected

DataWhy
Email address To create your account and sign you in. Handled by Supabase, our database and authentication provider.
Your cellar
bottles, vintages, notes, drink windows, storage layout, preferences
It is the content of the app. Stored so it survives reinstalls and appears on your other devices.
Photos you take
wine labels, receipts and order confirmations, storage units
Label and receipt photos are sent to our server to be read and turned into bottle entries. They are read once and never stored — but a receipt can also carry your name or part of a card number, so crop it if you would rather not send that. Storage photos are stored so your cellar map can show them.
Marketing preference Whether you asked for product news. Off unless you turn it on, and you can turn it off again in Settings at any time. It is the only thing your email address is used for beyond signing you in.
Feature usage counts
how many free smart adds and Ask Cru answers you have used, and whether you subscribe
Sent to our server when the app opens, so we can tune the free tier. Each install gets a random ID that is never linked to your account or sign-in, so we can tell one device's launches from a hundred devices' — but not who you are. It is the only thing about how you use the app that leaves your phone, and you can turn it off in Settings — the app keeps working, we just stop counting.

What is not collected

Who else sees it

Only the services needed to make the app work:

Where it is stored

Your account and cellar are stored in the EU, on servers in the Netherlands, plus a copy on your own device so the app works offline. Two things are processed outside the EU: reading a label or answering a pairing question (Anthropic) and searching for a bottle photo (Google), both in the United States, under the EU standard contractual clauses. Nothing else leaves the EU.

How long it is kept

Until you delete it. Deleting a bottle removes it; deleting your account removes everything associated with it. There is no archival copy kept for our benefit.

Your rights

You can export your cellar from within the app at any time. If you are in the EU or UK, the GDPR gives you the right to access, correct, export, or erase your data — email the address below and it will be handled.

Children

CruSense is a wine app and is not intended for anyone under the legal drinking age in their country. It is not directed at children and does not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes materially, the date at the top changes and the new version appears here before it takes effect.
